This book was so fun to read. A page-turner for me, and there are so many pages with very cool graphics. Rae made the book so relatable, and real, and so human. Maybe because I have a hard time getting out of my head in general, so this book was a good one to read for me, as I'm navigating through a few things in my life, and trying to make some space in my head to process some things.

Anywho, enough about me. :) There are a few paragraphs that I bookmarked, and I will write them here, in case they could give you a better idea of why you might like the book too:

  • Page 69: "[...] The anxious brain won't fold in a crisis. It's prepared for it. So there is no reason why you should feel less about yourself if you are an anxiety or stress sufferer. That's nonsense. You've already survived the horror of your own head. You're more ready than you'll ever know for lots of things. You're ready for life."

  • Page 87: "Just release yourself from the centre of things. You ARE important to the people who love you. You're important to this world. You don't know yet what YOU are going to achieve (that applies to you whatever age you are). However, the world does not pivot on you. Thank GOD. When you release yourself from being the centre of things, you also release yourself from worrying too much about what everyone thinks."

  • Page 176: "Remember that you're more than a mental illness. You are not just your diagnosis. You don't have to wear it and share it unless you want to. It's not your duty." - and "The world is triggering. Give yourself the power to cope with those triggers or remove yourself from those situations until you can cope with them."

  • Page 186: "Your brain is listening, so speak nicely to it please".

Rae also wrote on depression, suicidal thoughts, in addition to providing some suggestions on what to do when/if we have those thoughts, which I find very helpful, and I wish I had this book about 7 years ago. But it's never too late, right? I'm glad I found it, and I hope other people who need some help/suggestions on how to take care of their heads consider reading this book. It is helpful for me, and I hope to remember to return to it when I need some suggestions on what's healthy to do to get back on track.
